Wig Sizing

Welcome to the Wig Shop at Facets, featuring Monique wigs and some custom styles in sizes to fit fashion dolls and BJDs. Please check back periodically to see new styles. If there is a Monique wig (style/size/color) that is not listed on my website, I can get it for you. To browse the wigs, please click on the appropriate size needed for your doll. If you're not sure what size you need, refer to the instructions underneath and check the table right under that.

The size guide below is for the wigs I carry (mostly Monique brand) that have a stretchy cap. They are not head measurement - just the size that best fits a particular doll. If your doll is not listed, you can measure yourself and make a determination.

HOW TO MEASURE FOR A WIG

Wrap a tape measure around the circumference of your doll's head just behind the ears and across the forehead. Measurement should be in inches. Most wigs have a stretch type cap which provides flexibility in sizing. This stretch cap makes it easier to place the wig on the dolls head.

EXAMPLE: If your measurement of the dolls head is 6.7 inches, a wig size of 6-7 is correct.

Note about Annora: See this blog post on notes about wig sizing for Annora Monnet.

Note about Sybarites: Size 4/5 will not fit over flocked heads like Slipper and Talc. It is a tight fit on vinyl Sybarites and Inque #1. If you have difficulty with putting wigs on in general, you might want to go with a size 5/6 and a silicone wig cap.

* Note about Ellowyne: The doll must be totally bald - no stubble. You will most likely not need to use a wig cap under a size 6/7 wig on Ellowyne. The 6/7 size is a tight fit on the painted eyes Wigged Out Ellowyne and Prudence, but fits along the hairline nicely. If you have difficulty with putting on wigs in general, you might want to go with a size 7/8 and a wig cap. Size 7/8 also has more hair and will most likely cover Ellowyne's ears. Inset eye Ellowynes have a slightly smaller head than previous wigged Ellowynes and the 6/7 is a very nice fit on them. Wigged Out Amber has a larger head - most 6/7 wigs will fit her, but a 7/8 might be preferable especially if you have trouble with tight wigs.

HOW TO KEEP WIGS ON

1. Silicone Wig Caps - (shown at right) These stretchy clear silicone wig caps give an ideal non-slip surface. They will also help if a wig is not quite the right shape or a little too large for the head. They are sized to sit on the plate of the head, but can be trimmed if needed. They are available in different sizes according to head measurements, just like the wigs.

2. Velcro - Use a small square or circle of adhesive velcro on the doll's head. I do not recommend the prickly side which snags the hair. Some dolls come with the prickly side Velcro dots - I recommend peeling it off and using something else before they ruin your wigs.

3. Moleskin - Available in the foot care aisle of a drug store. This is adhesive and provides about the same amount of friction on the head as the softer side of Velcro.

4. Double sided tape - Holds fine, but needs to be changed frequently.
